Assemblyman Scott Wilk Announces Committee Assignments

SACRAMENTO- Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, has been selected to serve on the following committees: Health, Higher Education, Business & Professions, and Arts & Entertainment. On December 3rd, Speaker John Perez appointed Wilk to serve as Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Rules.

“I appreciate the trust Speaker Perez has shown in me by his appointment to a leadership role, as well as some of the major policy committees in the Assembly,” stated Wilk. “I take this responsibility very seriously and I will work both sides of the aisle to improve the business climate and provide greater access to health care and educational opportunities for all Californians,” Wilk continued.

The Committee on Health’s primary jurisdictions are health care, health insurance, mental health, Medi-Cal and other public health care programs. The Committee also oversees licensing of health professionals and long term health care facilities.

The Committee on Business and Profession oversees consumer protection, occupational licensing, and the creation and elimination of regulatory agencies.

The Committee on Higher Education’s primary jurisdictions are the university, state university and community college systems and student financial aid.

The Committee on Arts and Entertainment’s main jurisdictions are the programs and policies affecting the recording and motion picture industries. The Committee also oversees tourism, art programs and museums, and the State Athletic Commission.

The Assembly Rules Committee acts as the executive committee of the lower house. One of its most important functions is to refer all bills and resolutions to the appropriate Standing Committee. It also grants rule waivers or suspensions and handles all personnel matters.
