Senator Scott Wilk Receives Committee Assignments

Named Vice Chair of Senate Agriculture and Education Committees

Senator Scott Wilk, R-Antelope Valley, announced today his appointment to serve as the Vice Chair for both the Senate Committee on Agriculture and the Senate Committee on Education.

The Senate Education Committee hears bills relating to education, higher education and certified educational personnel.

“The crucial social divide today is between those who feel the core trends of the global, information-age economy as tailwinds at their backs and those who feel them as headwinds,” stated Wilk. “Parents know that every child learns differently, and that’s why one-size-fits-all public sector education isn’t working. We must stand up for equal opportunity in education by giving every parent the right to choose the best school for their child.”

Wilk’s previous education policy experience includes serving six years as a governing board member of the Santa Clarita Community College District.

The Senate Agriculture Committee’s vast jurisdiction encompasses all issues related to California’s agriculture industry including invasive species, pest management, agricultural education, food safety and expositions and fairs.

“California agriculture not only feeds millions of people across the country and globe, but is a $50 billion home-grown industry,” stated Wilk. “Despite its importance, agriculture has been ignored by Sacramento policymakers. My pledge is to continue to advocate for increased water storage, fight to reduce burdensome regulations and push for open markets so our great farmers, ranchers, and business owners can thrive.”

In addition to Vice Chair of the Senate Education and Agriculture Committees, Senator Wilk was appointed to the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee and the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs.
