Celebrating Filipino American Heritage Month (FAHM) in October, Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) recognizes two Filipino Americans who are outstanding leaders in Senate District 21. Elvie Ancheta and Earle Potot have served in roles that included dedicating their life work’s to uplifting the lives of veterans and defending America’s freedom.
According to the Filipino American National Historical Society, Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California.
“The month of October marks the changes of the season and an opportunity to celebrate Filipino American History Month. California’s rich history includes positive contributions by Filipino Americans who have left their mark in a variety of fields, including serving our nation in the armed forces, working as doctors and nurses, and laboring in the agricultural fields throughout the state from Sacramento to the Coachella Valley,” said Senator Wilk.
“Both Elvie and Earle have done so much for our community. Earle is a proud U.S. Army veteran who has served more than 15 years. He has been received multiple awards for outstanding performance and professionalism. Meanwhile, Elvie oversees the William “Pete” Knight Veterans Home in Lancaster, which is a 60-bed assisted living facility for our elderly veterans. Their achievements and positive contributions are integral to our community. I am pleased to recognize their outstanding achievements during October, as California commemorates Filipino American History Month.”
Senator Wilk proudly voted in support of Assembly Concurrent Resolution 282 (ACR 282, 2018) which marked October as FAHM and Assembly Concurrent Resolution 104 (ACR 104, 2019), which recognized the 121st Anniversary of Philippine Independence.
