Supporting our Business Community

I am pleased to announce that the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has given me a 100% on its 2107 legislative score card. What goes on in the Legislature has a tremendous impact — good and bad - on small business. The agenda in Sacramento is big business, big labor and always bigger government but 99.45% of all businesses in California are small businesses and 49.5% of California’s workers are employed by one. They are truly the economic engine of this great state, yet so many times Sacramento ignores their importance to our economy and to our communities.

It is my job to speak up for the needs of the small businesses that lay out their own capital, hire millions of Californians and invest in our communities. That is one of the many reasons I select and honor one small business from the 21st Senate District each month.

Congratulations to my recent Small Business of the Month recipients.

I will also be serving on the following standing committees: the Senate Committees onBudget, Business, Professions and Economic Development, and Veterans Affairs.
