Sacramento - Senator Scott Wilk, representing the 21st Senate District, issued the following statement after submitting a letter to the Pentagon supporting the City of Palmdale’s application to be the base of operations for the U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM.). Governor Gavin Newsom’s office also informed the City he approved of its application as well.
“Palmdale and the Antelope Valley are referred to as the Aerospace Valley for a reason. We have the talent, the knowledge and the infrastructure right at our fingertips to take our nation into the future,” said Wilk. “Palmdale is home to Air Force Plant 42 and the Antelope Valley is home to not only Edwards Air Force Base, but operations of every major aerospace contractor as well. This is a good fit for the Air Force and a great fit for the AV and I am most grateful that Governor Newsom has approved our application to the program.”
In May, the Department of the Air Force released criteria for eligible locations to nominate themselves as suitable locations for the US Space Command headquarters. Potential candidates will later receive additional information assessing their suitability based on the evaluation criteria. An application must be approved the state’s governor before it is forwarded to the Pentagon for final determination.
Palmdale meets all of the eligibility requirements and is an excellent choice for the Space Command’s location. It has created an environment that allows aerospace companies of all sizes to succeed and innovate. The region is a trusted partner of the United States military.
