Today Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) delivered a letter to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors opposing a proposal to relocate violent youth offenders to Camp Joseph Scott and Camp Kenyon Scudder in Saugus. The placement of the violent youth offenders puts the community in a dangerous situation as neither of the facilities are capable of housing non-violent youth offenders.
In the letter to the supervisors, Senator Wilk stated, “Making this move without the proper security features in place is a mistake. The nearby communities deserves to feel safe in their homes, and should be allowed to provide their input. It’s clear that right now, the security needs to house violent offenders far exceeds what is present at this facility.”
The Board of Supervisors was originally scheduled to vote on the proposal July 13, but the issue has been tabled for several weeks.
“It is my hope that this delay will allow time for public hearings and comment on a decision that greatly impacts our community,” said Wilk.
