SACRAMENTO –Senator Scott Wilk, R-Antelope Valley announces Senate Bill 634, a measure to create a new water district in the Santa Clarita Valley has passed unanimously out of the Assembly Committee on Local Government.
“We are now one step closer to creating a first class regional water agency that will reflect the values of transparency and accountability, as well as provide improved reliability and water quality for the residents of the SCV,” said Wilk. “When completed we hope to have a 21st Century modern government agency that will serve as a model for water agencies throughout the state and nation.”
This measure is the result of negotiations between the Castaic Lake Water Agency and Newhall County Water District to consolidate, creating a single Santa Clarita Valley Water District. It also includes Los Angeles Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) in the formation of the new agency.
“SB 634 creates a collaborative effort between residents, representatives of the agencies and LAFCo, ensuring once again, transparency and accountability,” concluded Wilk.
The measure now goes to the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife for approval.
