Simi Valley Middle School Receives $5,000 Barona Education Grant

SIMI VALLEY – Yesterday Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, presented Hillside Middle School Principal Jerry Block and Library Media Tech Carol Lairsey with an education grant of $5,000 on behalf of the Barona Band of Mission Indians.

Lairsey contacted Assemblyman Wilk’s office for a letter of recommendation to apply for the Baron Education Grant. Hillside Middle School will be using the grant to improve the quantity and quality of books for their school library.  Adding 300 new books to their library will help increase reading comprehension through the Accelerated Reading Program for their English and Social Studies classes.

“This grant will have a positive and lasting effect on the students at Hillside Middle School,” Wilk said.

The Barona Band of Mission Indians is proud to help make a difference for schools throughout California. Through the endorsement of your locally-elected state representatives, schools in your area can now apply for Barona educational funding to purchase much-needed supplies and materials such as books and computers.
