Wilk bill on natural gas storage study passes committee

SACRAMENTO –Today, Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, presented Assembly Bill 1905, which would require the Secretary of the Natural Resources Agency to conduct an independent scientific study on natural gas storage, injection, and conveyance facilities to survey the dangers and provide recommendations for natural gas storage practices. The measure received unanimous support in the Assembly Natural Resources Committee.

“No community should have to endure what Porter Ranch has gone through, and in the aftermath of the Aliso Canyon gas leak, it's vital we immediately identify and recommend safer natural gas storage practices to protect the public from future disasters like this one,” said Wilk. “It is imperative the state conduct a study on the gas storage industry as there are other facilities that sit in close proximity to homes up and down the state.”

The study required by this measure will help update how the state regulates natural gas storage facilities. AB 1905 will be heard next in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
