SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, submitted a letter to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) requesting an investigation to examine the recent increase in Southern California Gas Companies (SoCal Gas) customers' gas bills.
“A growing number of my constituents have shared their outrage by this recent spike and are asking if this is due to the Aliso Canyon gas leak. As you know, SoCal Gas is prevented from increasing their prices to cover the cost of the leak,” stated Wilk. “Naturally, as residents of Porter Ranch and the surrounding communities continue to grapple with the Aliso Canyon gas leak, many individuals are concerned the recent surge in gas bills is connected to the leak. Residents who have been relocated have told me their gas bills have increased and they are not even living in their homes.”
Recent reports issued by SoCal Gas claim the increase is due to colder conditions.
“My constituents have suffered enough as this leak has affected children, seniors and pets, harmed local small businesses and, of course, negatively impacted our environment. I request an investigation to examine the recent increase in SoCal Gas customers' bills,” concluded Wilk.
