SACRAMENTO – Today Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, was elected by his colleagues to the 5-member Senate Rules Committee. The Rules Committee is considered the most influential assignment in the Senate. Selection to it must be confirmed by the entire Senate.
The Rules Committee is responsible for reviewing and approving or rejecting hundreds of key gubernatorial appointments before they are voted on by the full Senate. The committee also has jurisdiction over proposed amendments and rules that govern the State Senate as well as all other matters relating to the business of the Legislature.
“It is an honor to be elected by my colleagues to serve in this position for the Senate. I am very appreciative of Senate Pro Tempore Atkins for the appointment and look forward to working with her on the Committee,” said Wilk. “As a member of the Rules Committee, I am committed to fully examining gubernatorial appointments, working to ensure the Senate operates efficiently and transparently, as well as assisting my colleagues as they navigate the legislative process.”
Senator Wilk was unanimously elected to the Rules Committee by the full Senate. Serving as one of two Republicans of the five-member Committee, Wilk will be replacing fellow Republican, Senator Tom Berryhill, on the Committee.
“Senator Berryhill has done a wonderful job on Rules Committee so I am especially grateful to my colleagues for their confidence in me and look forward to working with them in this new capacity,” added Wilk.
Wilk represents the 21st Senate District which includes the Antelope, Santa Clarita, and Victor valleys. He was first elected to the State Assembly in 2012 and was elected to the Senate in 2016. (Link to biography)
Senate Rules Committee is chaired by Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins. Wilk will be joining Senators Bill Monning, Anthony Cannella and Richard Roth as a member of the Committee.
