Wilk honors Las Brisas as the August Small Business of the Month

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wilk, representing the 21st Senate District, honored Las Brisas in the Village of Apple Valley as the August Small Business of the Month at a community celebration. Their family, customers, and the community surrounded owners Gus and Linda Alfaro as Senator Wilk presented them with the award.

“It is really a pleasure to recognize a business that is clearly loved by its community,” said Wilk. “The Alfaro family has treated Apple Valley like family over the years, and I can tell today that the feeling is mutual.”

Established 28 years ago by Gus and Linda Alfaro, Las Brisas is a go-to in the High Desert for delicious food and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Always quick to help out with space or food when the community is in need, Las Brisas is an integral part of The Town of Apple Valley.

A true family-owned business, Gus and Linda are there every day. Maria, Gus’ sister, has worked there since day one. The Alfaro children - Omar, Jordan, and Brisa - grew up working in the restaurant and still take time every day to come by to say hello or visit with patrons. They are also the first to help on the packed holidays.

For many years, Las Brisas provided free Thanksgiving dinners to those in need and still offers complimentary meals to uniformed military and public safety officials.

“One of the many great things about living in a small community like Apple Valley is the people,” said Wilk. “The Alfaro family treats their customers like family and in return, the community loves them. Congratulations to you on a well-deserved award,”

Small businesses, like Las Brisas, are the backbone of California’s economy. They employ 6.7 million Californians and comprise 49.6% of California’s workers.

“It is an honor to be recognized for doing what we love,” said Gus. “Making great food, serving up my famous Cadillac Margarita’s and enjoying the good company of my community is just what we do. The fact that our family – and I mean our children, my sister, our employees and the people of Apple Valley – are here with us today makes this even more special. Thank you.”
