Sacramento –Senator Scott Wilk, R-Antelope Valley, released the following statement after passage of a nearly $200 billion budget, the largest in California’s history:
“It’s Groundhog’s Day in Sacramento once again. Despite rhetoric to the contrary, spending is at a record high; not a cent of the budget surplus went to pay down unfunded pensions or bond debt, and the High Speed Rail is fully funded - taking away money that should be used for our students, roads and the developmentally disabled. There are good and bad things in the budget but overall, it ignores the priorities of ordinary Californians and burdens our children with massive debt. Unlike Bill Murray’s character in the movie, Groundhog’s Day, the Legislature has not learned its lesson and finds itself repeating bad behavior day after day.”
