Sacramento – Senator Scott Wilk, R-Antelope Valley, believes the Legislature continues to ignore the will of the voters and again misses the mark on California’s biggest challenges. He issued the following statement after voting ‘No’ on the 2017-18 budget:
“The largest budget in our state’s history breaks faith with addressing the challenges, hopes and aspirations of ordinary Californians.
It cuts career tech education – which has been a pathway for people to the middle class. 30% of the new $52 billion gas tax hike that was promised to go toward roads has been diverted by the majority party for items such as job training for felons. Poor children won’t be receiving the dental services they need because the majority party has re-purposed those funds to the General Fund.
This budget was crafted without transparency or accountability, behind closed doors by three people: the Governor, the Senate Pro Tem and the Speaker of the Assembly. Adding insult to injury, special interest lobbyists were given the language to the budget before legislators and the public. This budget fails on both process and policy.”
