Senate Bills

SB 53 - Open Meetings:  Will help improve the transparency of our state agencies by aligning them through the Bagley-Keen Act to the Brown Act that local governments must follow.

SB 153 – Industrial Hemp Clean-Up: Conforms State law to federal law changes that occurred as a result of passage of the Federal Farm Bill last December.

SB 202 – Animal Blood Banks: The “Doggy Donor” bill increases the options for animal blood donation and clarifies that animals serving commercial blood banks need not permanently stay at production facilities.

SB 219 – Foster Youth Activities Grant Pilot: Fund to provide extracurricular and enrichment activities to foster youth. The program will provide up to $500 in enrichment activity grants to CA foster youth, enabling their participation in activities that might otherwise be financially out of reach.

SB 236 – Environmental Innovation Grant Program: Will establish an innovation grant for companies & institutions creating products that reduce C02 emissions using greenhouse gas reduction fund proceeds, modeled after Canadas’ Ontario Low Carbon Innovation Fund.

SB 333 – Homeless Funds Action Plan: In accordance with recommendations from the State Auditor, will require the Homeless Coordinating and Financing Council to develop and implement a statewide strategic plan to address homelessness in California. Would also require the Council to assist the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to implement its recommended activities in California.

SB 387 - Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency: Would allow the Santa Clarita Water Agency to not be required to fill vacancies that occur in its board of directors until it meets it required reduction of board membership numbers.

SB 409 – Unlawful Dumping Reform: Helps put an end to the devastating impact that unlawful dumping has had on the environment and the health of our communities by reforming the unlawful dumping statute to address situations in which landowners permit truck owner/operators to unlawfully dump waste matter on their land.

SB 437 – Super Commuter Gas Tax Refund: Provides a tax refund to qualifying super commuters who are most affected by the gas tax increase.

SB 580 – Animal Abuse Education and Treatment – Imposes optional education courses for all animal abuse offenders and mandatory mental health evaluations for a limited number of more egregious and violent animal abuse offenses.

Resolutions

SJR 3 - Resolution requesting Congress to enact, and the President to sign, legislation that would repeal the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision from the Social Security Act.  These penalties apply to paid-for and earned benefits and cause financial hardship for many California retired teachers.

SR 28 - Resolution to raise awareness of Prader-Willi Syndrome to coincide with the Awareness Month of May.

SJR 8 - Resolution calling on the Feds to increase funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
