Senate Bills

SB 58 – EDD Fraud Prevention – Generally prohibits the Employment Development Department (EDD) from sending any outgoing US mail to an individual containing the individual’s full social security number.

SB 292 – Industrial Hemp – Revises provisions regulating the cultivation and testing of industrial hemp to conform to the federal requirements for a state plan under the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018.

SB 360 – Escrow Agent Protections – Current law applies important protections from California's credit reporting laws to escrow agencies, such as the right to receive a copy of any report produced by escrow rating services, and the right to dispute and correct inaccurate information. These protections expire on January 1, 2022, and this bill extends them to January 1, 2027.

SB 509 – Temporary Licenses for Optometry Students – Optometry students are required to travel to North Carolina during a pandemic to take Part III of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) to become licensed in California. This bill would create a provisional license that allows an optometry school graduate who has not taken this part of the NBEO to temporarily practice optometry under the direct supervision of another optometrist.

SB 520 – CEMEX Mega-Mine – This bill would reopen the public protest period on the CEMEX mega-mine in southern California to ensure that the public’s voice would be taken into consideration before the CEMEX mine could proceed.

SB 545 – COVID-19 Pupil Supports – SB 545 seeks to mitigate the deleterious effects of school closures on student educational advancement by providing additional supports to students who have requested to be held back.

SB 546 – Phones for Foster Youth – Requires the California Public Utilities Commission to continue to offer the current benefits of the "iFoster Pilot Program" to California's foster youth between the ages of 13 - 26. These benefits include smartphones with free unlimited voice, text, and data.

Resolutions

SJR 4 – IDEA Act Funding – Resolution calling on the Federal Government to increase funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

SJR 5 – Protecting Social Security Benefits – Urges Congress to amend the social security benefits formula, so that those turning 60 during the pandemic do not lose benefits.
